HOW TO GET TO JEJU ISLAND


There are two Airports in the greater Seoul area: Incheon Int'l Airport and Gimpo Int'l Airport. Frequent flights are operating from Gimpo Int’l airport (~40 daily flights) to Jeju Airport. Also there are direct flights from Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Beijing, Sanghai, Shenyang, Taipei, Kaohsiung to Jeju Airport. Please check your local travel agency for the direct flights from the major Asian cities to Jeju.


Most of flights from overseas to Korea will arrive at Incheon Int’l Airport, however, there are only small number of flights operating between Incheon Int'l Airport and Jeju Airport.

To check out this flight schedules, go to http://www.airport.kr/iiacms/pageWork.iia?_scode=C1204060000&fake=1218424344679. Therefore, participants who will land at Incheon Int’l Airport are advised to move to Gimpo Int’l Airport either by Airport Express(AREX) or Airport Limousine.

 

AREX has two kinds of train: Express train and Commuter train. AREX Express operates 05:23 ~ 22:28, whose service frequency is every 60 minutes and journey time is 28 minutes. The train ticket is 7,900 won/one way. AREX Commuter operates 05:23 ~ 00:22, whose service frequency is every 12 minutes and journey time is 33 minutes. Fare is 3,100 won/one way. Airport Limousine from Inchen Int'l Airport to Gimpo Int’l Airport operates 05:20 ~ 21:00, whose trip time is about 30 minutes. It will charge 6,500 won. From Jeju Airport to Jungmun Resort (where the Conference venue, Hyatt Regency and Hotel Hana are located)


Airport Limousine bus (bus no. 600) or Taxi are available at the outside of the Airport main entrance.


Limousine bus operation hours: 06:20 ~ 22:00, runs every 12~15 minutes, takes 50 minutes to Hyatt. Bus fare: 3,900 won (cash only Korean won)


Taxi fare: about 30,000 won (cash only Korean won), it takes 30~40mintues to Hyatt or Hana Hotel.

Places to visit

 

 

Yeomiji Botanical Garden

 

Located in Jung-Mun Tourist Complex.
Botanical Garden YEOMIJI was established in 1985 and opened to the public in 1989. More than 1.4 million visitors have been warmly welcomed since the Yeomiji Botanical Garden was established.

It consists of a conservatory and outdoor gardens. A conservatory divided into five sections including a Flower garden,  a Water lily Garden, a Cactus and Succulents Garden, a Jungle Garden and a Tropical fruits Garden displays various tropical plants. Foreign country traditional gardens such as Japanese, Korean, Italian and French Garden, are also recreated and especially Jeju Native Plants Garden can be seen at outdoor gardens.

 

 

Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak)

 

The crater of Sunrise Peak consists of 99 rock peaks along its rim that look as if they are escorting the crater and forming a castle. For that reason, the basin was considered to be holy, and it was named "Seongsan" which literally means holy mountain. The view of the sunrise here is truly remarkable.

Mysterious Road (Dokkaebi Road)

 

On Mysterious Road (or Dokkaebi Road), a parked car on a slight hill road rolls uphill instead of going down hill. This is a result of an optical illusion in which the lower part looks higher because of its surrounding environment

 

 

Manjang Cave

 

Manjang Cave was designated as Natural Monument No. 98 on March 28, 1970. The 7,416-meter long cave has been officially recognized as the longest lava tube in the world. The annual temperature inside the cave ranges from 11° to 21°, thus facilitating a favorable environment throughout the year. The cave is also academically significant as rare species live in the cave. Created by spewing lava, "the lava turtle", "lava pillar", and "Wing-shaped Wall" look like the work of the gods. It is considered to be a world class tourist attraction.

 

 

Mount Halla

 

Mount Halla is the mountain of one of the three gods and is a notable mountain. It stands at the center of Jeju Island, spreading east and west. The east face is steep, the north side is gentle, and the east and west form a flat, wide highland. Mount Halla is a dormant volcano created by volcanic activities during the quaternary period of the Cenozoic era. It is primarily covered with basalt. On its top is a crater Baeknok Lake. This mountain is a home to alpine plants and houses as many as 1,800 species of flora. It also boasts luxuriant natural forests and vast grasslands. In addition, precipitous cliffs and slopes, and unusual rock formations standing along valleys produce magnificent scenic views. The community of azaleas also adds to the beauty of Mount Halla.

 

 

Jeongbang Falls

 

Jeongbang Falls is one of the top three waterfalls in Jeju along with Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls. This water is the only one falling directly to the sea in Korea. The 23 m-high waterfall has two streams of water. It produces the brisk sounds of water falling along the black wall, creating a splendid scene along with the ocean. Moreover, the neighboring precipitous cliffs and the stately old trees add to the unique scenic view of the waterfall. It is open from 7:30 a.m. ~ 7:00 p.m. in the summer and from 8:00 a.m. ~ 5:30 p.m. in the winter.

 

 

Miniature Theme Park (Soingook)

 

The Miniature Theme Park is the largest of its kind in Korea. You can see some of the famous architecture of Korea and the world, all in one trip. This park is situated in scenic valley where you can see Mt. Halla and mystical secondary volcanic cones. Over 100 world-famous architectural marvels from 30 countries recreated in miniatures on the 66,000 sqm, including the Bulguksa Temple, Jageumseong(Forbidden City), Sacre-Coeur, Leaning Tower of Pisa and Tower Bridge.

 

 

Seogwipo Excursion Ship

 

The Seogwipo Excursion Ship is a one-of-a-kind vessel on which tourists can enjoy both marine and submarine tours. People can see the views of Seoseom Island, Jeongbang Falls, Munseom Island, Beomseom Island, Oedolgae Rock, 12 caves and magnificent coastal scenery. Sightseeing aboard a ship is available at regular intervals from sunrise till sunset.

 

 

Seogwipo Submarine

 

The submarine goes under water up to 35 m deep in the Seogwipo City Marine Park, which includes Munseom Island.

 

 

Seongeup Folk Museum

 

Seongup folk village has preserved the characteristics of the lifestyle and context of the Jeju people with various tangible and intangible cultural properties. Tangible cultural properties such as Hyangkyo, Ilgwanheon, thatched roof houses, stone -grandfathers, Seongji, Yeonjama (a millstone worked by ox), the site of ancient administration buildings, and stone monuments make a fascinating study. Intangible properties unique to mid-mountain villages including folk songs, foods, craftwork, and provincialism have also been preserved and handed down.
